FIVE FRAGMENTARY SAFAVID CUERDA SECA POTTERY TILES: THE CLOUDS
Iran, 17th century
Comprising five, differently sized and fragmentary tiles, possibly from the same original composition, painted in cobalt blue, green, turquoise and manganese purplish-black on a white ground, produced using the Andalusian cuerda seca technique, featuring floral stems interwoven with cloud bands in the typical Chinese style encountered on Safavid textile and carpets, the largest fragment 22cm x 22.5cm at widest point.
