TWO ENGRAVED BRASS VESSELS
Late Qajar Iran, ca. 1880s - 1920s

Comprising a decorative openwork vase, of bulbous shape, resting on a splayed circular foot, rising to flared shoulders and a tall cylindrical neck, with a circular reinforced rim, the exterior engraved with large turquoise-set circular medallions filled with youths in garden settings with wine flasks, rosettes, and floral sprays, set against an openwork background with scrolling floral sprays, bands of interlocking split palmettes and fretwork around the foot, shoulders, and neck, and vertical cartouches filled with turquoise-set rosette festoons on the shoulders, 29.5cm high; and a similarly decorated ewer, reminiscent in shape of coffee pots but taller in size, with a stylised dragon handle and upward-turned, curved spout on each side, engraved with interlocking vegetal meanders, empty cusped cartouches, and fretwork bands, 33cm high.
