AN ANTIQUE SHIRVAN RUG, EAST CAUCASUS

The indigo field with overall various hooked and floral motifs together with stysised animal figures. In double ivory and beige border of stellar-flowerhad vine and stepped motif octagons between floral and barber-pole stripes, approx: 3ft.2in. x 2ft.7in.(96cm. x 79cm.) Very unusual to have small rug size from Shirvan weave, seldom found in the sales. Nice overall design also unusual. Colours are well blended. Pile has very slight wear to the top, down to knot collar in few places. Cotton selvages with touches of fraying to the cord. Ends with short fringes, one with very slightly fraying. In general this rug is in good usable condition. Attractive piece.
