A large pair of early George III sterling silver candlesticks, London 1764 by John Hyatt (Grimwade 1369)
With stepped and gadrooned square form bases, the column with spirally fluted junction and gadrooned knops, fitted with removable square sconces with gadrooned edges. Each engraved to the stem with an impaled coat of arms, the dexter side with an augmentation for a baronet. The sconces engraved with a crest of upon a chapeau out of a ducal coronet, a plume of five ostrich-feathers. Each fully marked to the side, a maker mark and lion passant to the capitals and sconces. For Sir Edward Astley, 4th Baronet (1729 – 1802) who married his third wife Elizabeth Bullen (1733-1810) on the 30th July 1793.
He was the son of Sir Jacob Astley, 3rd Bt. (1691-1760) and Lucy le Strange (1699-1739), she was the daughter of Sir Nicholas le Strange, 4th Bt. (1661-1724). Elizabeth was the daughter of George Bullen (1668-1754) of Caldecot and Susannah Frost (1695-1745) who were married on the 5th June 1716.
