A RIMLESS IZNIK POTTERY DISH
Ottoman Turkey, ca. 1550 - 1575
Of shallow rounded shape, resting on a short circular foot, the interior painted in bole red in relief, cobalt blue and copper green with black outlines against a white ground, the decoration consisting of a lush floral bouquet with red-spotted blue tulips, red carnations and roses stemming from a tuft of green grass, a blue saz leaf with red buttons diagonally crossing the composition, the top of the cavetto with two black concentric circles and a decorative band with halved white rosettes on blue ground, the exterior with green and blue-splashed spiraling roundels against plain white ground, 28.7cm diam.

Another example, dated ca. 1575 and presenting the exact same border of our lot with halved white rosettes on blue ground, is part of the David Collection in Copenhagen (no. ISL.183).
