Wellington (Arthur Wellesley, Duke of) Autograph letter signed ('Arhur Wellesley'), regarding the rumour that "Mr Coke the noted Irish rebel has been lately sent over from France on a mission to this country. I don't think it by any means certain that he has been in Ireland, and certainly not in Dublin; but as he has business [...] of a private nature and as he lately made overtures to Lord Liverpool with a view to receive his pardon and to be allowed to reside in Ireland, it is very possible that he may not be charged with any conviction[...] However, it is desirable that persons of this description should not be allowed to return to the king's dominions, or to remain within them without being molested and great measures have therefore been taken by the Government to discover where Mr. Coke was concealed. I think it now certain that Mr Coke was at Glasgow till the 5th or the 6th of this month, when he went to London. If he really went there, or is there now, he may be discovered by watching a man by the name of Saint John", four pages, folding marks, age toning, scattered soiling, remnants of mount to left margin, 8vo, Dublin Castle, 23 December 1808.
