FOUR ENGRAVED TINNED COPPER EWERS AND A BASIN
Central Asia, late 19th - early 20th century
Comprising four tinned copper ewers, each of pyriform shape with compressed and flattened sides, resting on a short splayed foot, rising to tall, tapering and ringed necks, surmounted by dome-like hinged lids, presenting tall, upward-turned, faceted spouts and sinuous handles on the sides, all engraved with analogous motifs with minor variations including rosette sprays, vegetal scrolls, strapwork bands, arabesques, wild animals on foliate grounds, and cusped epigraphic cartouches filled with crude nasta'liq inscriptions, the tallest 42cm high; and a tinned copper ewer basin, of typical globular shape with a wide, flattened rim scalloped around the edges, surmounted by a floral openwork grid, the rim engraved with cusped epigraphic cartouches of crude nasta'liq script, 25.5cm diam. and 9cm high.
