A matched pair of George II sterling silver candlesticks, London 1754 by John Cafe and London 1757 by William Cafe

the bases of shaped and incurved square form with splayed shell corners, the central column with circular knops and a shaped square knop below a plain capital. Each with a removable shaped square sconce with shell corners. Each engraved with a crest of a saracen's head, couped at the shoulders, wreathed about the head, and issuing therefrom a plume of feathers. Each engraved underneath with initials M*W in Roman script. Both fully marked underneath, lion passant to capitals and the sconces unmarked. (2)
