Music Interest.- A collection of letters by composers and musicians regarding the production of ‘Checkmate’ performed in Covent Garden, including: an autograph letter by Arthur Bliss, to ‘Mr Davis’, reading in part ‘The attached letter from the conductor of the Royal Ballet wishes it clear that Covent Garden will attend to the matter of the cuts  in the new orchestral material of Checkmate for the performance this winter.’, 1 page, mailing fold, small rust staining, Oct 2nd; with attached letter mention by Bliss from John Lauchbey, reads in part ‘…Actually it was in the Touring Company’s repertoire a few years ago, but it seems that the parts were old and torn. We are having a brand-new set from Novello’s….’,  1 page, mailing fold, 1 Oct; also with a typed letter from Leopold Stokowski, to miss Ida Krem, reads in part ‘…This could be done with any company in New York or in Europe…’ 1 page, slight toning, 6. March 1968; it also includes letters from Alan Bush, Laszlo Heltay, and others (8)
