Possibly Calcutta (Kolkata), West Bengal, India, late 19th century
Of rectangular shape, resting on a flat base, carved on five sides, the lid featuring Krishna playing the flute in the centre flanked by two apsaras with peacock tails, the sides with pairs of animals typical of the Indian fauna against full vegetal sprays and flower trellis, the interior divided into six fixed compartments, 16.5cm x 43cm x 29cm.
