A James II sterling silver porringer, London 1688 by YT two pellets above, fleur-de-lis below (unidentified)
Of circular form with a rounded base and short cylindrical foot, an everted lip with a caulked rim. Applied C scroll handles to each side. The underside with engraved initials I + R in Roman script, the rim with 18th century initials M*CN in Roman script. Fully marked underneath.
Length – 15.4 cm / 6 inches
Height – 7.9 cm / 3.1 inches
Weight – 155 grams / 4.98 ozt
The mark of YT, who name has not been identified, is associated with high quality holloware between 1686-94, as well as chinoiserie decorated wares at least two spout cups are recorded, of which the body is of the same form as this porringer.
