A George III sterling silver teapot on stand, London 1790 by Charles Hougham
The teapot of shaped panelled form with incurved sides, the octagonal tubular spout opposite a fruitwood C scroll handle pinned to octagonal sockets. The upper section with a cavetto edge leading to a hinged domed lid of conforming shape surmounted by a detachable fluted ivory knop. The stand of conforming shaped with ovolo edge and shaped rim, raised upon four ball and bracket feet. The teapot engraved with bands of bright cut engraved decoration of rosettes against a striated ground. Each side with an elliptical cartouche flanked by laurel all held within a rectangular frame with incuved corners reserved with striations. One side engraved with a coat of arms in a shield and the other with a crest of trees. The stand similarly decorated; the cartouche engraved with the same crest. Each fully marked, the lid with lion passant only.
