A PARTIAL ENAMELLED TINNED COPPER TEA SET AND A SILVER SUGAR LUMPS HOLDER
Andhra Pradesh and Kashmir, India, late 19th and mid-20th century

Comprising an incomplete tinned copper tea set with a circular tray with everted rim, a pyriform creamer, a cylindrical lidded sugar container, and a circular saucer with an everted flattened rim, each vessel engraved and enamelled in black in the negative spaces, the decoration consisting mostly of vegetal sprays, rosette roundels and floral trellis, the creamer with an old inventory sticker to the base reading No. 20, Madras Fine Arts Exhibition, G. Chinna Vaerana, Vizagapatam, the tray with an unusual motif of a vegetal candlestick with seven flower heads in the shape of candleholders on each side, the centre developing into a palm with thirteen leaves, the tray 38.5cm diam., the saucer 16.8cm diam., the sugar container 18cm high and the creamer 9cm high; and a tall conical sugar lumps holder, decorated with stylised chinar leaves in relief and a cusped shield engraved with the inscription S. D. D. 1945, 34cm high.
