[HUDDESFORD, George (1749-1809) & others]. The Diaboliad, A Poem Dedicated to the Worst Man in His Majesty's Dominions. A New Edition, with Large Additions. London: G. Kearsley, 1677 [ie. MDCLXXVII"] [but [?]1777] .[And the same author's:] [William COMBE (1742-1823)]. The Diabo-Lady: or, A Match in Hell. A Poem Dedicated to the Worst Woman in Her Majesty's Dominions. A New Edition, with Large Additions. London: Fielding and Walker, 1777. [And:] War. [From the Supplement to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, Vol. VI. Part II.] [No place: no publisher, n.d.]. 27-pages, printed in double column, 2 engraved plates at the end numbered CXXI and CXXII, inscribed, "To the Garrison Library of Plymouth from the Author, Major Hamilton Smith". Together 5 works bound in one, 4to (252 x 210mm).(Several large spots, some lighter spotting and staining, some leaves torn, a few repairs with slight loss.) Contemporary half calf and marbled boards (rather worn and soiled). The preface to "The Diabo-Lady" is credited to "Belphigor." Provenance: Plymouth Public Libraries (bookplate, another torn away from front free endpaper, various small library stamps in blue); illegible old signature at head of the first title page. Sold not subject to return. The first work contains "A Morsel for a Mussulman: or A Revelation of the Future State of Deceased Females, in Refutation of the Supposed Mahometan Doctrine, Asserting that Women have no Souls, and are Excluded from Paradise," and "Monody on the Death of Dick, an Academical Cat." The unattributed "Dedication" of "The Diaboliad" commences, "My Lord, I have not the honour to being acquainted with your Lordship; and as I do not wish there should be any attempt to violate my property, to estrange the affections of my wife, to seduce my daughter, or corrupt my son: it is a matter of real satisfaction to me, that I have not formed any connections with you."
