FRENCH SCHOOL (MID 19TH CENTURY) Portrait of the architect Eugène Denarié (1831-1912) oil on canvas 82.3 x 64.5cm (32 1/2 x 25 1/4in) A student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, in 1861 Denarié was appointed architect of the district of Albertville and in 1871 architect for the diocese of Annecy. During his time in these roles he oversaw the building of the churches of Albertville, Ugine, Frontenax and Thénésol, a dozen presbyteries, Albertville town hall, the town hall and law courts of Grésy-sur-Isère, the Catholic College of Evian-les-Bains, twenty-two schools and the psychiatric hospital of Bassens in Savoy.
