AFTER TIZIANO ASPETTI (ITALIAN, 1565-1607): A 19TH CENTURY SILVERED BRONZE STATUETTE OF MARS the standing figure pulling his sword from its scabbard, raised on a stepped base over a marble plinth, traces of silvering remaining, 18cm high A 16th century example of this model is in the Frick Collection, Inv. No. 1916.2.56. The spirally turning pose of the present figure reflects the artist's admiration of the work of Giambologna, who was known for producing statues that can be admired from various angles.
