A COPPER ALLOY REPOUSSÉ EWER WITH FIGURAL DECORATION
Possibly Kutch or Mumbai, India, 19th century

Of globular shape, resting on a splayed circular foot, rising to a tapering narrow neck surmounted by a dome-shaped hinged lid with a bulging lotus collar and a parrot, with a sinuous spout with a camel head on one side and a braided cobra handle on the latter, the repoussé body decorated with three Indian faces in high relief, including two ladies wearing large earrings and heavy necklaces and a gentleman with thick beard and the Vaishnava Urdhva Pundra tilaka on his forehead, all resting against a triumph of intertwined vegetal sprays and floral scrolls, 30.4cm high.
