MANNER OF BARTHELEMY PRIEUR (FRENCH, 1540-1611): A SMALL 17TH CENTURY BRONZE STATUETTE OF CUPID standing on his left leg and with arms outstretched, his hair distinctively modelled with curls and a large ringlet to the centre of his hair, on an integral rectangular base, dark brown patination with light brown high points, on a square marble plinth, 15cm high This bronze figure features similarities to Prieur's well known bronze statuette of Cupid shooting an arrow. The dynamic pose, scale and proportions of the present bronze indicate that the sculptor was influenced by Prieur's oeuvre. For an example of Prieur's model sold at auction see Christies, London, 9 July 2001 lot 51.
