COLIN & CIE the nude goddess seated on a draped rocky mount and retrieving her necklace from Cupid who stands beside her holding it aloft, on a naturalistic base signed 'Steiner' and with 'E. COLIN & CIE PARIS', with a plaque to the front inscribed 'TENTATION' 66.5cm high Clement-Leopold Steiner is perhaps best known for his bronze group of 'Fame of Industry' on the Pont Alexandre III, an extravagant bridge that is considered to be the most decorative in Paris. The E Colin & Cie foundry was very highly regarded and employed by many of the important sculptors of the day including Jules Felix Coutan and Emile Louis Picault.
