Autograph Collection.- Academics & Scientists Group of letters and notes by various scientists and academics, including: topographer Thomas Dunham Whitaker (autograph letter, reads in part “… This will I believe very nearly amount to if not exceed the balance of my [account] with you which Mr Haslam will finally settle as soon as he has recovered from his present illness”, 12 March 1785); Eleanor Ormerod (autograph letter,  thanking her recipient for the "two kinds of cocoa-nut beatles/ weevils and a lamellicorne male and female" and adding "as soon as I can I will look into the matter with pleasure, and will write you. But my regular work being on English pests, there is a difficulty to me about the tropical kinds from not knowing the details of their life, history and the available agricultural treatment” St Albans, 25 October 1885); Professor Frederick William Twort (typed letter, reads in part “… I have been studying your book on The Longer Life and have found it very interesting: at the same time the variations in the vitality of different individuals make it difficult to be very definite in the matter of deductions. I sometimes think that the man who lives to an exceptionally old age does so by living a slower physiological life", London, 4 July 1946); John Watson (typed letter to Sheridan Russel, reads in part “I am so glad you enjoyed my talk and found it helpful. Perhaps it was a good thing you did not hear me ten years ago; the great profession of hospital almoners might have suffered as the result!”, London, 18 November 1955); Sir Malcolm Watson; and some others, c. 1780s-1940s (quantity)
