Lucienne Day is considered to be one of the leading textile designers of the 1950s and 60s. She designed more than 70 patterns for Heal's, including her 'Calyx' design for the Festival of Britain in 1951. She helped establish Heal's textile business in the post-war boom, her contemporary 'mid century' designs epitomising the optimistic mood of those decades. She was married to Robin Day, one of the most signficant British furniture designers of the 20th Century.
Lucienne Day studied at the RCA before the Second World War: her studies included a two-month placement with Sanderson, whose Victorian warehouse in Chiswick is now the headquarters of Chiswick Auctions.
