A William IV sterling silver teapot, London 1836 by John Tapley
Of panelled ‘gourd’ form upon four acanthus scroll bracket feet. The curved spout with a cast decoration of acanthus leaves and C scroll with a textured reserve opposite an acanthus capped double C scroll handle, fitted with ivory insulators pinned to scroll junctions. The hinged shaped domed lid surmounted by a detachable cast finial formed as convolvulus flower upon a leafy calyx. The side engraved with an initial R in gothic script. Fully marked underneath, part-marks to lid and finial.
