A George III sterling silver mustard pot, London 1792 by Peter and Anne Bateman (reg. 2nd May 1791) overstruck by Thomas Ollivant of Manchester
Of cylindrical form with a reeded rim, the S scroll handle leading to hinged high domed lid surmounted by a ball finial raised by an open work splayed shell thumbpiece. The body with two band of pierced stylised acanthus leaves heighted with bright cut engraved decoration, the lid bright cut engraved to the edge with a herringbone border. Fitted with a removable blue glass liner. Fully marked underneath and overstruck, makers mark and lion passant to lid, not overstruck.
