A Victorian Houghton & Gunn Travelling Candle Lamp 'Reading Light'
A fine Houghton & Gunn travelling candle lamp, comprising a metal, leather case which opens when the button is pushed, the inside of the box is divided into two compartments, one contains a candle, with holder, and the other can be lifted to find two compartments of matches. The case is embossed with the word 'light' on top 'Houghton & Gunn 162 New Bond St' on one side, and 'H.B. 1837, H.W' on another side, box measures (3 1/2 x 2 1/4 x 3/4 in) 9 x 5.5 x 2cm.
Houghton & Gunn of New Bond Street, later merged to become part of the Asprey's Empire.
