Ecclesiastical - A Charles II unmarked silver recusant altar cruet, circa 1670

Of rounded form upon a domed spreading circular foot, the panel section spout opposite a C scroll handle with moulded upper section leading to a hinged domed lid raised by a plain concave disc thumbpiece. The foot and lid with embossed decoration of foliate scrolls heightened with prick dot decoration. The sides of body with later 19th century flat chased decoration of rocaille C scrolls and flower heads reserved with latticework, one side with traced of engraved Christogram within a sun cartouche IHS. The top of the lid deficient of finial and no engraved with a later crest of a dexter hand holding five arrows in bend sinister with the motto above Be Mindful To Unite.
