A George III sterling silver mustard pot, London 1773 by Walter Brind (this mark reg. 11th Oct 1757)
Of cylindrical form with beaded rim, the unusual hinged domed lid with a reeded sit over edge, raised by an open work thumbpiece leading to a double C scroll handle. A spoon aperture cut to the front of lid and base bezel. Engraved to the front with a crest of upon three annulets interlaced a demi griffin sergeant. Fitted with a removable blue glass liner. Traces of gilding to interior. Full base. Fully marked underneath, makers mark and lion passant to the lid interior.

The unusual sit over edge would ensure that mustard did not dry out by providing a tighter seal when closed
