A LATE 19TH CENTURY ANGLO-INDIAN SILVER CHRISTENING MUG
Madras, circa 1890, by Peter Orr and Sons
Raj period, of tapering baluster form with a textured loop handle. The body with embossed decoration in swami pattern, one as Manasa, goddess of snakes, another as Nirrti upon her vahana a man, each within scrolling arches topped with masks, the columns formed as vertical elephants supporting lions topped with a peacock. Marked underneath with stamper P. ORR & SONS MADRAS.
