A pair of Victorian sterling silver salts, London 1874 by Richards & Brown (Edward Charles Brown)
Each of compressed circular ‘cauldron’ form, with beaded rims upon three lion paw feet with lion mask junctions. Gilt interior. Together with a pair of Old English Bead pattern, single struck, salt spoons, London 1874 by George Adams of Chawner and Co. Each element engraved with a crest of out of mural coronet a demi lion rampant, the salts further engraved with initials GW gothic script cypher. Each fully marked. (4)

The initials are for Gustavus Andreas Witt (German, Hamburg 1840-1905) a merchant who married Johanna Frederika Helene de Clermont (German, Frankfurt 1848-1936). Thence by descent to their son Sir Robert Witt (1872-1952), thence to Sir John Witt (1907-1982), thence by descent.
