A George II sterling silver coffee pot, London 1742 by Peter Taylor (reg. 11th Nov 1740)

Of tapering cylindrical form with a rounded base upon a spreading circular foot. The part-fluted curved spout with shell terminal and moulded junction opposite a wooden scroll handle pinned to scroll junctions. The hinged domed lid with incised concentric circles surmounted by a knop finial. The side engraved with a spinster’s coat of arms in a lozenge, surrounded by rocaille and foliate scrolls as well as ears of wheat or bull rushes. Marked to the side of the handle, the makers mark underneath, the lid unmarked.
