A George III sterling silver salver, London 1777 by James Stamp

Of shaped circular form with shaped cavetto edge and beaded rim, all raised upon four cast ball and claw feet. The otherwise plain field engraved to the centre with a bright cut oval cartouche with ribbon tied pendant swags above and cross palm branches below with draped bellflower chains, the cartouche with contemporaneous engraved initials WJ in flourished cursive script above a crest of a nowed. Fully marked to reverse with makers mark over striking itself.

Diameter – 35.1 cm / 14.05 inches

Weight – 1169 grams / 37.58 ozt

The crest is for Cavendish, Flemming, Honnor, Huxley, Lante, McCandish, Mathilez, Melton, Morison, Pringle, Simpson and Southern.
