A QAJAR POLYCHROME-ENAMELLED PAINTED GOLD PENDANT WITH MOTHER AND CHILD
PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT PRIVATE EUROPEAN COLLECTOR

The pendant in the shape of a cusped palmette or escutcheon, caparisoned on the lower border with seed pearls and with a small hook at the top set with a red glass bead, the front decorated with a polychrome-painted enamelled portrait of a mother and child, the child portrayed with a halo around his head in line with Christian iconography in Western paintings of the same subject, the back with a lush floral bloom featuring a large pink rose, tulips, white and blue flower heads, and several lively birds, 5.8cm long.
An almost identical Qajar polychrome-enamelled pendant depicting a pining lady was once part of the same collection and successfully sold in these Rooms, 22 July 2020, lot 88.
