Lot 429 - De Amicis (Edmondo) Collection of fifteen...

De Amicis (Edmondo) Collection of fifteen postcards signed by Italian author and journalist Edmondo De Amicis mostly addressed to literary critic Giacinto Stiavelli and expressing De Amcicis's feelings of friendship and graditude, as well as congratulations on Stiavelli's works, February 1897- August 1907; two pages featuring his autograph poem 'Grandinata'; three autograph letters signed ('De Amicis'), one mentioning the author's political views closed to socialism ("the measures of our society are laws made by men and not by nature, so they can be amended, and it is my duty, as a writer to express and spread this idea") and the complaints and negative feedback he received for expressing "my faith in the triumph of a doctrine utopic perhaps but whose aim is to give bread to whom is dying from starvation, dignity to people turned into beasts and peace to a world now reduced to hell", three pages, light splitting along folding marks, 8vo, Turin, 28 January 1892; with a copy of In Tua Memoria Figlio Mio!, signed and inscribed by De Amicis to Professor Stileti "who reminds me of a happy day of my beloved Furio" [the author's first son, who took his life at only 22] on title page, some foxing throughout, original wrappers, some discolouration, 4to, Rome, Societa' Editrice Dante Alighieri, 1899 (20)
