A George III sterling silver covered sweetmeat bowl, London 1778 by George Smith II

Of inverted baluster form upon a domed foot with embossed leaf border. The double domed pull off lid surmounted by a chased pineapple finial. The body with embossed decoration of C scrolls and flower heads above rocaille. Engraved with a crest of out of a mural coronet a demi-griffin holding between the claws a mullet pierced. The lid with similar embossed decoration and engraved crest. The foot rim engraved with contemporaneous initials C over I*E in Roman script. Fully marked underneath, the lid with lion passant and makers mark to interior only.
