Meiji period, 19th Century.
Inlaid with finely carved iris blossoms and leaf blades in high relief, a butterfly perched on an open petal, another fluttering above, a small plaque with an illegible signature to the bottom left, all contained within a wood frame carved with prunus blossoms, 82 x 49cm.
Provenance: purchased in India in 1930s and by descent to the present owner.
