Opaque pigments and white wash on ivory, the oval miniature portraying a young Duleep Singh (4 September 1838 – 22 October 1893), the last Maharaja of the Sikh Empire, wearing a bright green turban with a black heron feather at the top and a large pearl and emerald-encrusted sarpech (turban ornament), the attitude, accessories and garb indicative of his high social status, mounted, glazed, and framed, 5.5cm x 4.5cm.
