A set of six early 20^th century French 950 standard silver butter dishes and knives, Paris circa 1920 by Jacques Risler (reg. 19^th October 1920, biff. 7^th feb 1927)

Each of circular form with a moulded rim with four shells, each with removable clear glass liners with star cut bases. Together with a set of six butter knives in fiddle, thread and shell pattern. Each engraved with initials in cypher VAA. Marked to base, the base also stamped RISLER. Together with a pair of French silver plate conserve pots, kinetic lids with frosted glass liners, probably by Alphonse Debain. (14)

The initials are for Victor A. Adda (Alexandria 1885-Rome 1965) he took over the family cotton trading business and formed an important collection of coins and antiquities. Following the Jewish expulsion from Egypt in 1956-57 the coins inherited by his daughters were auctioned (as "The Property of a Lady") by Christie’s on 9 October 1984 and 8 October 1985. Some Late Roman coins were offered in Bank Leu, auction 77, 11 May 2000, and the remainder of the collection now at the Israel Museum. He owned an island in the delta which was excavated Arthur Robert Callender (1875-1936). Thence by Descent.
