A QAJAR POLYCHROME-PAINTED ENAMELLED GILT COPPER QALYAN CUP WITH MOTHER AND DAUGHTERS PORTRAITS

Of typical flaring cylindrical shape, with an everted rim and a later-added copper base, the exterior decorated with polychrome enamels and gold, alternating two roundels with figural portraits of three Qajar women, possibly a mother with her two daughters, and lush floral bouquets with hyacinths, roses, and daisies, one portrait signed in black on the right-hand-side Ja'far, all set against a vibrant golden ground, two zig-zag fretwork bands with flowerheads at the top and bottom of the cup, the interior made of plain copper, 6cm high.
