A George IV Scottish sterling silver wine cooler, Edinburgh circa 1825 by James McKay, later marked for Edinburgh 2007

Of compressed circular form upon a pedestal base raised upon four lion paw feet with applied rosette and C scroll junctions with a gadrooned rim. The acanthus foliate twin handles below an embossed band of trailing fruiting vine with an acanthus rim. The domed pull off lid surmounted by a stylised pomegranate and acanthus capped finial, an applied laurel leaf band. The junction of pedestal base with an ovolo band. The interior fitted with a lift out leaded liner. Each side of body engraved with a contemporaneous impaled coat of arms with foliate mantling surmounted by a crest of an eagle displayed with the motto Fear God. Marked to the side with a trade stamp Ja Mkay in an oval punch, marked to the base edge and the bezel of lid with later assay marks.
