AN 19TH CENTURY NEAR PAIR OF VELVET INDIAN FLOOR SPREADS, Gujarat, North-Western India, of rectangular form, the joined red cotton velvet ground with bold floral motifs in the margins and corners in couched and raised yellow metallic thread wound around a silk core, within a narrow border of joined spangled navy, red, and green velvet bands containing a scrolling frieze, and a heavy outer border of heavily couched metallic thread, twisted metallic thread fringe, lined in printed pink and white cotton, x 220cm x 134cm.; and another, similar, darker red velvet ground, within a softer border, lined in teal blue and white printed cotton, 220cm x 136cm.
