A George III sterling silver cake or bread basket, London 1769 by William Plummer (reg. 8th April 1755)
Of oval form with a scalloped gadrooned rim interspersed with shells. The body with spiral pierced panels of nought-cross alternating with foliate scrolls interspersed with spiral beading, all raised on a spreading pierced foot with rope twist borders. The centre with a later embossed rocaille and flower head C scroll vacant cartouche. The swing handle with incised lines and a vacant cartouche flanked by flower heads, all connecting to pierced husk junctions. Fully marked to side of basket, the handle unmarked.
