A LARGE REPOUSSÉ SILVER JUG WITH ANIMALS AND FLORAL DECORATION
Iran, late 19th - early 20th century

Of bulbous pyriform shape, resting on a stepped circular foot, rising to a flared ringed neck with a widely everted curved spout, on the side a slender sinuous handle, the repoussé and engraved exterior a decorative tour de force of cusped cartouches with pairs of Safavid-style fighting animals like dragon, qilins, gazelles, lions and storks, interspersed amidst typical Qajar patterns like lotus scrolls, rosettes, intertwined vegetal trellis, and arabesques, on the side of the handle three stamps reading 84 Qalam-e Parvaresh (the style of Parvaresh), 36cm high.
