An early 20th century Burmese unmarked silver bowl, Rangoon circa 1930
Of compressed circular form. The body with embossed decoration of Ramayana scenes. Depicting scenes such as Sita with Lakshmana asking Rama to catch the Golden dear for her, Maricha assuming the form of a golden deer, Rama slaying Maricha as the golden dear as he shouts "Oh Sita! Oh Lakshmana!", luring Lakshmana away this allows Ravana to appear to Sita alone as a mendicant (Sadhu), in search of alms, ready to kidnap Sita in his Pushpaka Viman. The upper section with a convex band chased with foliate scrolls, the lower most section with a band of stylised water cabbage leaves. The underside flat chased with a peacock and in Burmese script.
