A KASHMIRI POLYCHROME-PAINTED AND LACQUERED GANEMEDE LIDDED BOX
Srinagar, Kashmir, North India, first half 20th century
Of circular shape, resting on a flat green base, polychrome-painted, gilt and lacquered, the decoration on the body consisting of halves of lobed medallions filled with a variety of colourful flower heads, typical Kashmiri palmette bands and stylised arabesques, the lid with an identical medallion in full and black ink calligraphic inscriptions within cloud-shaped cartouches all around the rim, signed Amal-e Ghulam 'Ali on the rim and stamped Ganemede, Srinagar, Kashmir on the base, 20cm diam. and 10cm high.
