A CHINESE BLUE-GROUND 'DRAGON' SUMMER ROBE.
Qing Dynasty.
Embroidered in gold-couched thread to depict eight five-clawed dragons among clouds, fames and auspicious symbols above waves against a blue ground, the black ground colour embroidered with further dragons, 132 x 100cm.
Provenance: from the collection of Gordon William Creighton (1908 – 2003), consul to the wartime capital, Chongqing in the early 1940s.
