Adam was a renowned British Filmmaker and BBC producer, writer, art specialist and collector of Modern Art. He wrote Eileen Gray: Her Life and Work: The Biography (2009); Outlines: David Hockney (1997) and Art of the Third Reich (1997).

This work is a sketch Vaughan completed in 1942 in sepia ink of one of his comrades. In the summer of 1942 No. 9 Company spent weeks bringing in the harvest and making hay:

Arms of polished bronze dusted with gold hair lifted high beneath the hay tossing the pollen-laden ripeness against the blue sky… I have lived in and been part of something I have always dreamt about. All this during a summer’s day, while panzer divisions match across Russia.
23rd June 1941, Keith Vaughan
