A late 19th / early 20th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver bowl, Madras circa 1900
Raj period. Of rounded circular form. The body with embossed decoration in swami pattern, depicting deities upon their vehicles (vahana), such as Indra upon an Elephant, Kalki upon a horse, Brahma upon a goose (hamsa), Yama upon a water buffalo, Durga upon a tiger, Nirrti upon a man, Chamunda upon a corpse (preta), Shiva as Bhairava upon a dog and Kama upon a parrot. All between rope twist like bands.
