LONGINES. A RARE MEN'S MANUAL STAINLESS STEEL MILITARY WATCH "DH" Model: Military watch Date: 15th January 1943 Movement: Signed, Cal. 12.68Z, with genuine metal movement holder, No. 6'433'451 Dial: Signed, black, luminous Arabic numerals, white outer minute division, subsidiary dial for seconds at the 6 o'clock position, silvered sword hands with luminous insert Case: Signed, brushed stainless steel, screw down back engraved "D3411H" Size: 32.35mm Accompaniments: Longines extract from the archives (sold on 15th January 1943 to the comapny Bauermeister GmbH, which was at the time Longines agent for Berlin in Germany) DH stands for 'Dienstuhr Heer' (Army Service Watch) and it was stamped on all the military watches from the period that watertight, black-faced wristwatches delivered as officers's watches. The same watch is mentioned in the publication Timepieces by Konrad Knirim pp.430. The watch belonged to Jack Spencer Naylor that was called up into the army in 1942.  He crossed to Normandy on D Day 2 (8th June 1944) as a 2nd Lieutenant, fought through Normandy, Northern France, Belgium, Holland and into Germany by which time he had been promoted to Major. He wore the watch every day till his death in 1974.
