A TINNED COPPER SAFAVID BOWL
Iran, 17th - 18th century

Of compressed rounded shape, on a gently rounded plain base, with narrow shoulders and flared cylindrical neck ending in an everted circular rim, the engraved decoration on the exterior divided into two main bands, one below the rim with oval calligraphic cartouches with auspicious wishes for the owner of the bowl interspersed with stylised lotus flowers roundels, the latter on the main body with alternating full and halved cusped medallions filled with intertwined split palmettes, stylised rosette sprays, Chinese cloud bands, fish-scale motifs, and Y-shaped design, all against a hatched ground, 23.5cm diam.
