A George III sterling silver salt, London 1773 by Samuel Meriton II (reg. 8^th May 1775)

Of oval pedestal form, with corded rims. Pierced decoration to the body and foot of ellipses, and oval cartouche to one side engraved with a crest of a stag’s head erased. Fitted with a ‘blown-in’ blue glass liner. Fully marked underneath, also engraved with an R to the foot rim edge.
