Items marked by John Goodman (c.1832-1899) are seldom if ever seen, he is first mention in the Exeter Assay books on the 25th August 1863 and last mentioned 30th Nov 1880, however only a very small amount of objects is recorded as being sent for assay by Goodman in Harrison, M., (2014), Exeter & West Country Silver,. Berforts Group, Hastings,. P.102. none of the items listed by Harrison could easily be considered this aide memoire unless it were the “1 shield”.
